When you order garden furniture, you will find that, unless you upgrade your delivery service, most is delivered on a pallet to the nearest flat surface which could be a driveway or curb, leaving you with a chunky pallet to get rid of. But, with these brilliant ideas, you can upcycle your pallet to create something unique and interesting for your home or garden, saving you a trip to the tip!
This has seen us turn to the aid of pergolas and gazebos to offer shelter and weather protection, but what’s the difference between them, and which one is the right choice for your garden? We’ve answered all your questions below.
Create a Garden Bar
By attaching your pallet to a wall or fence in your garden, you can create your own rustic outdoor bar, perfect for socialising outdoors in the sunshine. The wooden slats will act as shelves to contain your outdoor glassware and any bottles, and you can add in hooks and screws to hold items such as coasters and bottle openers.
If you’re feeling really creative, you can even add some extra wood that folds up to hide the pallet and folds down to create a tabletop! To prettify, simply add some LED lighting and perhaps paint the name of your very own bar on the pallet.
Transform Into an Outdoor Planter
Give your pallet a lick of bright paint to make it much more attractive and stylish – perhaps pick the nicest flower in your garden and match this colour – then attach some pots with equally lovely flowers inside. You could even attach some stylish bunting and create a lovely area to display your pots and favourite flowers.
The great thing about this is that if you ever move house, your favourite plants will be easy to transport to a new location!

Grow Your Own Veg
Not only can your pallet be transformed into an area to grow your favourite plants, but it can also become an area to grow your favourite veg and herbs. Depending on the style of pallet you have, you may need to attach some supporting slats in order to keep the soil in place, but with a lick of paint and some stencilling, this will create a perfect area to grow your favourite herbs for seasoning and even some vegetables if it is large enough.
A Storage Solution
If you love gardening but don’t have the space to store your tools – whether you don’t have a shed or it’s simply a mess – you can utilise your pallet as the perfect storage solution. By attaching the pallet to a wall or fence, this will create an area to store shovels, rakes, brooms and more, without them being dangerously discarded on the floor.
A Stylish Coffee Table
This idea may take a little more DIY, but it is an excellent way to upcycle your pallet into a stylish piece of furniture. You will need a saw, some nails and a hammer in order to rearrange the pallet, but this can create multiple designs.
Then just add a couple of coats of paint, add some outdoor lanterns, potentially a candle, some coasters and you have yourself the perfect coffee or side table for drink and snacks outdoors.
Order of Service
Getting married? A pallet is the perfect way to display your order of service for the day. Whether you choose to paint the pallet or go for a more rustic look by leaving it natural, just add some stencils or free hand the writing yourself if you have neat handwriting, to create the order of your day and let guests know what they can except from your big day!
Unique Shelves
Whether you need new shelving in the garden or inside the house, your pallet can be transformed into stylish, rustic shelving that is completely unique. This is the perfect way to display photo frames, vases and other ornaments. Again, this idea will require some more DIY, but the result is very effective!
Upcycling is so on trend right now, and the perfect way to reuse your pallet without needing to throw it away, ensuring you get use out of every part of your garden furniture order.
